Common Room @ 5360 205 St., Langley (entry code 319)

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and is always 46 days before Easter Sunday. Lent is a 40-day season (not counting Sundays) marked by repentance, fasting, prayer, study, and giving. The 40-day period represents Christ’s time of temptation in the wilderness.

On Ash Wednesday, we mark our foreheads with the sign of the cross using ash made from the previous year's palm crosses used on Palm Sunday. As the ash is applied the officiant says, "Dust you are and to dust you shall return," a reminder of our mortality. The application of ashes also represents mourning and repetance.
