St. Paul was known originally as Saul and was an opponent of the early Church. He persecuted Jews who believed in Jesus as the savior. Jesus stopped Saul from persecuting Christians and called him to his side, baptizing him with water and later with the blood of martyrdom. The account of the conversion of Saint Paul (Acts 9: 1-5) serves as an inspiration for those who criticize the Church. Through the example of Paul, Jesus touched the heart of the one who persecuted his people and can also touch ours.
